Tyson trying to recruit Jefferies?

Postby Boston_PuppyDawg » July 7, 2012, 3:21 pm

The Knicks could use a backup center to Tyson Chandler and have talked with Jared Jeffries about returning for the veteran’s minimum. Jeffries averaged 4.4 PPG in 18.7 minutes per contest last season.
Felton: "We can't be satisfied ... We're not going to lay it down like we've got everything figured out. We've still got a long way to go." (Nov 7th 2012)

I think all that's saying is that the Knicks want Jeffries to back up Chandler, not that Chandler is recruiting Jeffries to back him up.

Jeffries really turned it around last year. When he was healthy he helped us a lot. But he seems to be breaking down physically. His knee problem especially. I like him, he's a good guy. But I'd only sign him if we cant find a better, healthier player.

That reminds me............if the Knicks manage to land Camby, what's the point in trying to re-sign Jeffries then?

because jeffries can defend further from 5 feet from the basket, unlike amare, tyson, or camby

Lin/Kidd
JR/?
Melo/White
Amare/Jeffries
Tyson/Camby

I dont really know why we have to have tyson and camby. Where are all these NBA centers we're supposed to be worrying about? The Heat don't have one. The Celtics don't have one. The Spurs don't have one. The Nets don't have one.The Thunder couldn't use Perkins effectively.

We're not in the 90s anymore. Outside of the Lakers, what team requires you to have 48 minutes of quality defensive big? We already know that Melo is effective in the 4 spot, which means the primary lineups are 4-Amare/5-Chandler, then 4-Melo/5-Chandler. We already know that Amare plays best at the 5-spot, which leads you to 4-Melo/5-Amare. If Jeffries takes the min, I still think the money would be better spent on mayo or foye, who can guard wings and help us get a higher playoff seed... instead of watching JR jack contested jumpers for 35 minutes a game.

In fact, we haven't even made an agreement with JR yet. So if we get Camby and JR goes somewhere else, THEN WHAT?

Ideally, this is obviously why both John Henson and Anthony Davis are going to have big careers in the NBA in the future..........they are the future of NBA big men. Both Davis & Henson have the ability to defend all the way to the 3 pt line AND still protect the paint.

Perkins, Chandler & Camby are the last dying breed of the prototypical "interior big men defenders."

Versitility.....Jared can defend all 5 positions, great lockerroom presence, and has been more vocal last season.....not too sure if people remember when Lin was commanding our streak and had Jared in the mix....Jefferies emerged as a leader, becoming vocal during the huddle and surprising many on the offense......I still love Jared! Classy player....dont't have a problem with him as a 3rd string PF,C or just a filler...

jared jeffries knick for life.

i don't see the need for him if we sign camby.
there's got to be an unsigned big man capable of making a layup.

Seriously, do you even watch any Knicks games?!? Tyson Chandler is one of if not the best in the league at getting out on the roller in pick and roll situations. He has length and speed. The guy can defend anywhere on the court, though he's best near the rim because he's tall and good at grabbing rebounds. He's the defensive player of the year! You don't make the worst defense into a top 5 by just hanging out by the basket. Tyson is everywhere on the court.
"It's kind of the same as when people said I was overrated, I have the same response," James said. "I don't need to flop. I play an aggressive game but I don't flop. I've never been one of those guys. I don't need to flop. I don't even know how to do it. So it doesn't mean much to me."

we need to fill roster spots. he plays for the minimum. everyone on the team loves him. what's not to like?

also sometimes guys get injured so its good to be 3 deep across the board.

very versatile defender and very adept at help, for the vet's min re-signing him is a no-brainer.
