Official Free Agency Thread

Postby nbafreak724 » July 1, 2012, 11:22 am

It's July 1st. Let's keep track of everything in here.

From what I've been hearing so far... it seems like players are gonna be getting overpaid this summer.

Roy Hibbert has been offered a max contract from the Blazers following a meeting with Neil Olshey and Larry Miller in Washington, D.C.

The Pacers did not offer a max contract and Hibbert is leaning toward signing the offer sheet with the Blazers.

One other unnamed team reportedly offer Hibbert a max deal as well.

Gerald Wallace is close to agreement on a new with the Brooklyn Nets.

Wallace was acquired from the Blazers at the trade deadline in exchange for expiring contracts and what turned out to be the No. 6 pick.

Wallace's deal, according to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski, is for $40 million over four seasons

I like Gerald Wallace but $40 mil over 4 years is not a good move by Brooklyn

The Rockets are prepared to offer Omer Asik an annual contract offer in the $8 million range.

Asik is a restricted free agent of the Chicago Bulls.

Houston similarly pursued Marcin Gortat at the start of his free agency in 2009, though he eventually signed a $34 million offer sheet with the Mavericks that was matched by the Magic.

$8 mil for Omer Asik?! The Rockets are a mess right now

Sounds about right. A respectful salary decline like for Garnett (though the length of Garnett's contract surprised me). Over the non-tax payer MLE some other team might offer. If he doesn't think he should get 10 mill per, there is no reason to leave Boston.

Like almost every year. The exceptions maybe 2005 (new CBA) and 2009 (when teams saved money for 2010).

Teams are especially aggressive when it comes to restricted free agents because it's so unlikely to get one.

Portland Trail Blazers restricted free agent forward, Nicolas Batum, has been contacted by the Minnesota Timberwolves and what is being called a "serious offer," has been made and discussed and the two sides will meet in Minnesota later today to deliberate on it further, according to a source very close to the situation.

The detailed figures that are being mulled over is a four-year, $45-50 million deal.

The New Orleans Hornets and Toronto Raptors have also reached out to Batum's agent, Bouna Ndiaye, and meetings with those teams have been agreed on and will be scheduled shortly after the Minnesota trip, a separate source said.

Keep in mind that the Trail Blazers can match any offer Batum receives out on the market and offer sheets can't be signed until July 11.

Hopefully the market dries up pretty quick so Lin doesn't get a backloaded offer sheet.

People are gonna be in for a rude awakening if they think Boston isn't gonna be contenders next yr. The big three haven't been predicated on speed or athleticism for about two yrs now, just crafty tough play, so age really won't be a factor outside of season long wear and tear. I think they've done well by drafting Sullinger wholl probably be the most nba ready player in this draft and Melo, who at least defensively can step right in. And with Allen and Garnett taking less money they got alittle room to spend.

I see the Celtics basically following the spurs aging veteran model. Keep your core intact, maintain your team philosophy, and restock with fresh high iq players.

I'm just loving how the Knicks aren't even talked about by any of the "experts". Broussard and Stephen A. can go suck some LeBron dick! Woody and the Knickerbockers are busting this thing wide open next season. I'm sure some solid free agents will fall into our lap before too long. hey, Grunwald managed to sell Tyson Chandler, coming off a championship with the Mavs, on the Knicks being the next big thing. and, yes, it took some cash as well, but now you can sell the next batch on our front court and the promise of the young Lin - Shumpert backcourt tandem.
maybe it's not the A train after all... though the A does go to the Garden

With the cash (allegedly) being thrown at Nash, we will see what kind of person he is. Plain and simple, he can compete or get paid. I'm not even saying the Knicks should be his choice, but picking a team for money - at this stage in his career is greedy, unmotivated, and uncreative. If he goes to the Raptors then I didn't want him here in the first place. If he joins another contender for less, then I can still respect the guy.

Right now, I am cool with going to war with what we have. Everything I hope for is just for the sake of insurance.

The Rockets just gave $25M over three years to Omer Asik.

Daryl Morey is a joke.

I guess that takes Houston out of the Dwight Howard sweepstakes? I honestly have no idea what Morey is doing there in Houston. Their draft picks were questionable and they have a bunch of players who pretty much play the same position...

With seven undersized power forwards and the addition of Omer Asik, the Rockets are about to take the league by storm.

Youre oversimplifying it. Toronto isnt simply offering him more money. Word is they wanna give him a management job once his contract is up. Basically Nash could go home to be the face of canadian basketball. Hats pretty important. Its be like a good player from Ny coming to the knicks while they sucked and we're paying the most. Id rather lose in ny than win elsewhere but thats just me.
