Even guys that have traditionally harsh on us for years, like Simmons, Hollinger and Broussard thought we acquired a nice package of players in exchange for Lee with no long-term commitments.
If AR can play just 20-25 mpg of consistent, high energy, difference-making ball, then he will have completely validated the trust DW showed by trading for him; beyond that, it's all extra icing on a great cake.
We did very well this summer and we still have the flexibility, trading chips to make more deals. Walsh is not retiring until he puts the right team in place, despite his recent health issues, he's really active and engaged.

However, the bottom line is that we are still one top flight allstar away from seriously competing - and I think that most figured the lure of NY and the coach would have brought that to us this free agency year. Promising talent looks good on paper and on you tube, but it is still an uncertainty and with all of our cap space, you would have thought we could snag 2 top guys. Although i am glad we didnt use the $$ on Johnson from Atl. I dont think STAT is underrated - he is a stud and a great character for this City. He seems to have what Xman had. I also dont think we are that much ahead in the foreign scouting. It seems like the West coast has had many good foreign players for years - I almost think we got scared off after passing up I think on Artest and taking good old Frederick Weis.
Melo is really that much of a key to this organization, He wants to be here, and we need to sit tight and not use our resources to get him. i say lets get our feet wet in the playoffs as a 7 or 8 seed - and then hopefully sign Melo or Duncan as a free agent (although Duncan will never leave - its not in his character). So perhaps the CBA negotiations are eally more key than anything else to our organization?
