If We Could Turn Back Time

Postby mikeaman on July 30, 2010, 12:10 am

Assume we know the outcome of the Summer of 2010.

Would we have still done everything the same way?

The Heat are stacked. The Knicks are still one superstar away. And maybe more.

If you asked me on July 8th while I was throwing up during "The Decision", I would have said no.

Now, look at our roster. We have one superstar and great young talent.

For a potential hard cap in 2012, we're in a better position than almost anybody because of all the young cheap talent on our team.

Donnie Walsh really did a great job this summer after he probably almost had a heart attack when he lost Lebron.

The Lee trade for us was really a steal. We filled 2 holes on our roster (shooting guard and shotblocking center in Turiaf), got a star young player, and two second round picks.

Our coaches system also allows us to look "around the world" more than other teams do for players. I think the Mozgov signing could really be a steal.

Signing Felton for a two year deal was perfect. I'm convinved we're not interested in Parker. We can go after Paul/Williams in 2012.

I just wanted to say I'm very excited about our team now. The roller coaster ride of this summer is expressed in my new signature below.

Even knowing the outcome, I would have still done everything the same way. Granted when Donnie took over there really was no choice but to trade salaries and rebuild.

Let the 3 bitches go play in South Beach. We'll build a championship team of our own.

Lebron stacked a team and screwed us.
Lee was sent to die in a California earthquake seconds later.
I was down. I was angry. I was hurt.
H20Knick's pep talk, the Felton signing, and a trip to hoopshype later
I first started to recognize how fuckin' good we can be this year.

Maybe I'm putting a little bit of a positive spin on it.

But Donnie really did do a great job after Plan A fell apart.

We are definately in a much better position now than when donnie took over and we definately made out a lot better than some of the other teams who were also trying to land the big free agents. How must the nets fans be feeling now?

Many have put us among the leaders in most improved category over the summer, no shame in that. Donnie promised that we would get much better and we did.

Even guys that have traditionally harsh on us for years, like Simmons, Hollinger and Broussard thought we acquired a nice package of players in exchange for Lee with no long-term commitments.

If AR can play just 20-25 mpg of consistent, high energy, difference-making ball, then he will have completely validated the trust DW showed by trading for him; beyond that, it's all extra icing on a great cake.

We did very well this summer and we still have the flexibility, trading chips to make more deals. Walsh is not retiring until he puts the right team in place, despite his recent health issues, he's really active and engaged.

Yeah, but remember this:
Al Harrington doesn't think this new team is better than last years team... :whacky: :whacky:
Amar'e Stoudemire...a real New York Knick.

He's bitter that he wasn't re-signed, would not read too much into his comments. The fact that there wasn't much market for him outside of the Nuggs validates that notion.

yeah I love that we're building our own legit team and we're doing it with guys who are unproven. Even Stoudamire, before he was a Knick I didn't take the time to realize how good he was, I bet a lot of other guys around the league underrate him, despite that he's an all-star and more. we're underdogs again :cheer: . And we're the perfect team to deny LeBron a title.
I like the Knicks

Let's compare the two shall we... Here are the absolutes:

Amare Stoudemire > David Lee
Raymond Felton > Chris Duhon
Anthony Randolph > Al Harrington
Ronny Turiaf > Jared Jefferies
Kelenna Azubuike > JR Giddens (What's the status on this kid anyway?)
Landry Fields > Jonathan Bender
This year's Gallo > Last year's Gallo
This year's Chandler > Last year's Chandler
This year's Douglas > Last year's Douglas
This year's Walker > Last year's Walker
Curry's expiring > Curry with an extra year remaining

Here are the uncertainties:

Andy Rautins ?? Eddie House
Timofey Mozgov ?? Earl Barron (I'm curious as to why we didn't pick him back up and elected to sign Mozgov instead. Guess Walsh knows something we don't.)
Jerome Jordan ?? Jordan Hill

Seems to be a no-brainer to me. Well, then again, based on his decision-making on the court, Al Harrington may not have a brain. So, I guess his comments are to be expected.

If I could turn back time, I might have to kill Cher before she ever recorded that song so we all don't have to hear it in our heads every time someone uses the saying turn back time.

i have to admit, that's a bit of a head-scratcher.

you'd think that a cheap big man who averaged a double-double (albeit over a very short stretch) would draw interest from SOMEBODY.

I think Walsh has done a tremendous job in a town that demands immediate results. However, the bottom line is that we are still one top flight allstar away from seriously competing - and I think that most figured the lure of NY and the coach would have brought that to us this free agency year. Promising talent looks good on paper and on you tube, but it is still an uncertainty and with all of our cap space, you would have thought we could snag 2 top guys. Although i am glad we didnt use the $$ on Johnson from Atl. I dont think STAT is underrated - he is a stud and a great character for this City. He seems to have what Xman had. I also dont think we are that much ahead in the foreign scouting. It seems like the West coast has had many good foreign players for years - I almost think we got scared off after passing up I think on Artest and taking good old Frederick Weis.

Melo is really that much of a key to this organization, He wants to be here, and we need to sit tight and not use our resources to get him. i say lets get our feet wet in the playoffs as a 7 or 8 seed - and then hopefully sign Melo or Duncan as a free agent (although Duncan will never leave - its not in his character). So perhaps the CBA negotiations are eally more key than anything else to our organization?

As an allman brothers fan, i would have killed Cher long before that. I still have a problem with that Allman & Cher album.
