I need Spree on this one, but isn't it that if Lee is signed and traded, the Knicks can retain the MLE and/or bi-annual exception or something?

- keep Chandy, Gallo, TD, Walker and Giddens (all still on rookie scale)
- decline the QO for Sergio (re-sign at a lower price if he really wants to play in NY)
- sign T-Mac only as a backup plan should no max FAs sign with us, for no more than a few mil
- sign Lee for $6M in year one (MLE money), but give him an extra year balloon payment and an opt out in the middle of his deal
- renounce rights to everyone else
- we're stuck with Eddy, he can't even stay healthy

besides the players under contract? pick up options on both Walker and Giddens, who'll come at two mil total per for the next season and three mil the one after. sign Lee to a backloaded contract that starts at around 8 mil. Sergio's got a qualifying offer of 2.8 mil, but I wouldn't want him back for more than 2 mil. T-Mac is a tough call. at 3.5 mil, maybe, but no more than that. Eddie House is a no, he's a mindless chucker, plus he'll probably go where the next contender is, that's what he does. don't be surprised to see him with the Magic or Lakers

-Douglas,Chanlder,Gallo,Giddend,Walker- all on rookie deals
-QO for Sergio
-Lee for backloaded deal starting at 8mil ( very fair)
-Tmac at 5mil/1yr deal- gives him a salary worthy of a former superstar while limiting the amount of years JIC injury or ineffectiveness, c'mon he's better than a vet minimum player and thats right now, not after another summer of recovery and teammates who actually understand what he's saying
-House 3mil deal- he does chuck but is actually a very smart player

Sign one max guy like Lebron and then hope to trade one of our youngins and Curry for a legitamate center.

Sergio/Douglas
McGrady/Giddens
Lebron/Walker
Lee/Gallo
Dalembert/Lee

Dont kid me with Cahmpionship dreams, just put this team together which is very well balanced and make the playoffs, see how far you get and hope 2011 brings another near superstar level FA. Maybe Dwight Howard. One step at a time.

First of all instead of the two Max's option i would go with one Max and re-sign Lee and protect the MLE. Get Lee to a backloaded contract.
pick up Walkers option, see if we can get Serg for cheaper than the QO, but i'd re-sign Serg too.
Let bender go, harrington, buyout Curry, obviously let Duhon go that goes without saying. Giddens i need to see before deciding- but right now let him walk, we can get lots of guys at the minimim to fill the roster.

we already have gallo, Doug, Chandy under contract. I'm undecided on House, i think we should survey the market for House no pun intended, he knows his role very well but only if he's cheap- he is a mindless chucker most of the time. I wouldn't lose an ounce of sleep if he went- because it would give more playing time to TD.
T-Mac i wouldn't go over 3.5mill for Tmac- to be honest.
I would concentrate on Camby and lookinto getting Felton at the point we need a PG we can rely on to run the floor its vital- and hope Lebron or Wade come on board.

None of these is remotely realistic, so you're basically saying keep the rookie scale guys, Giddens, Sergio and Bender. Everyone else goes. Not necessarily bad.

Lee will get 10 from someone. You take the hard line like that and he'd leave on principle even if it meant signing a mid-level deal. Why bother insulting the guy?
T-mac will pull in more than the min. Its not like he has Iverson issues.
House will draw close to the mid-level.

Bottom line: figure out the max guy before making any decisions about the rest.

you tell em watch. I think we feel that you are either a max player or a vet minimum guy and thats just not how it works. Tmac would probably even laugh at the 5mil I offered him and to think Lee's signing for 7mil is just crazy. He's definatley at least a second option guy, defense or not. 2nd option guys get 10mil usually with the main guy getting max. TcGrady getting about 5-6. Except with Tmac give a shorterm one year deal. And then just relax and understand that there will be trade deadlines, drafts, and future FA's to improve your ballclub.

who the hell is giving tmac 5-6 mil?

the guy can barely play 1 game.
he's a decent roleplayer at this point. worth 1-2mil.
3 mil is pushing it.
8 mil starting for lee is acceptable but the limit.
lee at 10 mil starting isn't worth it.

chandler, gallinari, douglas, walker - all on rookie contracts
tmac - i'll take him for the vet min A team would be foolish to offer him more...h looks like he could go down any time. I think he'd be much more focused on team makeup and location than money at this point; ..
curry - no choice
bender - min Id drop him
house - FORECLOSE on the outhouse/b].
lee - 7 mil starting salary, which is above the MLE. NOT A PENNY MORE h[b]e's getting much more, DAntoni wont keep him so sign and trade

sergio - QO a little pricey
but worth it IMO either way.
giddens- min

We need to resign Lee for 10 mil if we can't land Bosh. I don't think we'll land LeBron. We shouldn't resign anyone else, maybe t-mac for the vet min. I wouldn't sign anyone over 28 years old.

As much as I want Lee and think he's worth about 10, I wouldn't want to sign him w/o one of the max FAs. We know he can't do it himself, and I wouldn't want to be locked in at 10 going into the next CBA.

the thing with re-signing Lee is, we can go for free agents again in 2011, Lee with Melo wouldn't be the worst frontline

I agree, but we need to re-sign Gallo and Chandler that year, plus Lee at 10 and whoever else we sign this summer = 30+ mil in salaries. Under the new CBA, the cap could be dramatically lower and we'd need to be very conservative this summer outside of Lee to be in a position to get Melo. It would be another throw away season just in time for a lockout.

well, if we don't get anyone significant this summer being conservative and waiting for the next opportunity is the only way to go. and far as Wilson and Danilo go, if it's between the two of them or Carmelo, who do you choose? besides, we have Curry's fat contract coming off the books after next season.
