Back during the 2011 draft night, it may have been a complicated three-team deal that allowed Klay Thompson to be thankful he ended up on the Golden State Warriors. The Sacramento Kings, Charlotte Hornets (Bobcats at the time), and Milwaukee Bucks completed a three-team deal that led to Milwaukee taking Jimmer Fredette with the 10th pick in the draft. They sent the BYU star to the Kings, leaving Thompson available for the 11th pick.

The Warriors scooped Thompson up with that pick, eventually traded away incumbent shooting guard Monta Ellis, and then created the best outside shooting backcourt in NBA history. Four years later, the Warriors became champions, which meant Thompson already has his first championship ring in the bag and will be working on getting another one. He's pretty thankful the Bucks didn't select him with the 10th pick.

This will inevitably tick some people off that he said this. There are plenty of reasons he may be thankful.

1) He may be pretty happy he ended up on the Warriors. After all, he did end up winning a championship before his first contract extension kicked in.
2) Maybe he doesn't like the city of Milwaukee, which is fine. There may be members of the Bucks or any team that don't love the Bay Area. Not every city is for everybody.
3) He may love being in the Bay Area more than anywhere else.
4) Did I mention they already won a championship? Why wouldn't he be thankful teams passed on him so he could be in this position?

The deal that ended up making way for him to get to the Warriors is funny in retrospect. The Kings selected Bismack Biyombo with the seventh pick and shipped him to the Bobcats and Beno Udrih to the Bucks. Charlotte selected Tobias Harris with the 19th pick and sent him, Stephen Jackson, and Shaun Livingston to the Bucks. Milwaukee took Fredette at 10 and sent him to the Kings with John Salmons. They also sent Corey Maggette to Charlotte.

Nobody from that trade still works with those teams. Thompson is not only a part of the Warriors but he's one of the main core members. A little bit more irony here is the Warriors eventually traded Ellis to the Bucks to make way for Thompson at the position and turn the roster over to Stephen Curry.

Why wouldn't Thompson be thankful for this?

I'm sure he does.

BTW, does anyone remember when Golden State fans booed the owner shortly after the Monta Ellis trade? Looking back, it was the pivotal move that turned the franchise around.
