Due to New York being over the cap and having a post-trade Team Salary under the Tax Threshold and trading out more than $19.6M in salaries, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New York could not receive more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. Due to Orlando being under the cap and choosing to invoke the Cap Room rule, Orlando could not go over the cap by more than $100,000 of post-trade Team Salary, which did happen here.

This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

In addition NY will send thier lottery pick and both 2nd rounders to Orlando and Orlando will send NY pick no.33 in the second round.

Orlando has been looking for a way to trade both Fournier and Gordon, this trade allows them to reset gaining Frank, another lottery pick and 2 first rounders in exchange for taking on Noahs contract.

For NY we give up on tanking somewhat but land two pretty good players who are young themselves but slightly more established. We get Orlando's pick 33 and better scout well.

Thanks for replying, I totally missed that post. But this trade is different. It kills two birds with one stone. I originally heard about the Knicks using pick to get rid of Noah and almost threw up. I envisioned it just being Noah for an expiring and that's all I'd be getting out of the deal with no pick and no real asset.

But this trade would be different, we'd be getting two relatively young guns for a player that's an albatross and all you'd give up is an underperforming Frank and a single lottery pick. I think the day after making such a trade you could work yourself right back into the first round by trading other assets. Obviously not as good but you could be represented.

Same mistake, but twice. Capped out without guys on rookie contracts. Not how I would strategically build.
