The Kawhi situation is alarming, because how can anyone else really determine if a player is fit to play or not? But hey, slavery ended 153 years ago, so lets not stop acting like there arent any similarities here. Once you sign a labor contract both sides have a clear framework for what it entails on both sides. The big question is what offers Kawhi and Jimmy will get in the offseason and how this will effect future contracts and the next CBA. Teams could make contracts partially guaranteed by upping the amount of performance bonus vs. guaranteed salary, though the current cba has pretty tight rules for hoe that works.

Seems that the Heat proposed a trade around Richardson + a protected 1st round pick for Jimmy. That sounds fair but Minny wanted a bit more it seems. Greedy wolves

Thibs doesn’t seem to want Butler traded, despite Jimmy’s request.

That may be the underlying problem.

Not to mention Towns signed the contract offer that Butler never received.

:? Butler was offered the maximum extension he was eligible for. It is just that next summer he can sign a much larger contract, so even if he wanted to stay it didn't make any sense to sign that extension. (He wants to sign that larger max contract next season, but not with the Wolves, which is why he is pressing so hard to get traded now).

JB back practicing with the team:

Three weeks after his trade request went public, Jimmy Butler returned to the Timberwolves‘ facility and practiced with the team today, reports ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (via Twitter).

While Butler’s participation in practice doesn’t necessarily mean a trade won’t happen, it’s another indication that he won’t sit out once the regular season begins next week. Of course, that was never really a realistic option for Butler, since – as ESPN’s Bobby Marks tweets – the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement features language that makes a holdout impractical.

According to Wojnarowski (via Twitter), Butler was vocal during today’s practice, verbally challenging coaches, teammates, and the front office, including Tom Thibodeau, Scott Layden, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Andrew Wiggins. Woj describes the 29-year-old as “vociferous and emotional at times.”

So it looks like he will suck it up after all (until a trade happens). Although it sounds funny that he is challenging everyone in his first practice.

In the end, most guys are pros though. Even Mirotic and Portis were able to co-exist until Mirotic got traded.

But to have a guy with one foot out the door, then to come in to camp challenging teammates, how can they take him seriously?

Yeah, if I was a wolves fan, I wouldn't laugh the matter away. Jimmy can become a poison dividing the lockeroom if the situation doesn't evolve. Minny should have accepted Miami's offer, no doubt

Agree. Especially if KAT and Wiggins continue to underperform. Butler is crying for those 2 to step it up.

Exactly what that team needs. Hes a pro and knows what hes doing. He told thibs and layden to trade him at the beginning of the summer before the draft because he had no interest in a five year plan and they did nothing all summer to move him or improve the team. He was point blank about Wiggins and KAT having more tools than him, but he ran around them in practice after 3 months of not playing because he plays harder. That Rachel Nichols interview was golden. Butler isnt afraid to tell the truth. Im not sure how front offices feel, but every vet who wants to win is drooling at the prospect. I cant imagine LBJ, CP, Russ not telling their front office to make it happen

Rest of the wolves have a clear choice, drink the kool aid or sputter back into the lottery.
