Road woes

Postby ISIAH_THOMAS » December 18, 2017, 9:27 pm

This team is pretty terrible away from msg. Now 2-9 on the road.14 of the 16 wins are at home. 2 on the road if you consider Barclays center a road game. Knicks have a lot of road games coming up. Why are they so lifeless away from MSG?

No Porzingis and Hardaway. Rest of the games were semi close.
No longer sick and tired that Kurt wasn't hired.

Even with kp they cant get over the hump vs teams like hawks and bulls. Tim will be for a while so they going to either sink or swim soon

The team ain't very talented, they live off hustle and grits which is easier to summon at home when the crowd lifts you up

Road games are what separates the role players from the stars.

We need star power if we want to win on the road.

for once...i agree with Max here lol. Common NBA rule is role players win home games and stars win away games.

Tim and Frank can take steps forward down the line.

can always draft well but based off this draft...we will have to wait a while for that to form.

there arent any Donovan Mitchells in this class but i do think there are some star talents in the middle area of the mocks

Build from within, draft, free agency, trades. The usual way. 8-)

It all comes down to coaching. We have Sessions, Hernangomez, and several g-leaguers who can contribute.
His insistence of starting Jack is also hurting the team and Frank's development.
Thomas should not be starting when we have McDermitt and Beasley.

It's not an issue of talent, it's just bad coaching.

When Hornacek was fired by the Suns, they lost 14 straight on the road.

The problem is if they fire him, who would take over? Rambis?

They need a new coach and a new coaching staff.

Fire Hornacek mid season due to failure to develop the young players while losing.
Let Rambis lead the tank with the young guys getting the majority of the minutes. This means Lance DNP, Jack OR Sessions ~15 minutes a night. At this point I'll take Sessions's D over Jack's O.
Fire the entire coaching staff at the end of the season.

Perry has to trade Lee if a team is dangling a 1 year shorter deal. He's overpaid for his skillset.
Trade for Shumpert even. that means Lance and Shump would be off the books the same summer 2019.

Looking at this far into the season before we know if we are truly a playoff team or a tank team so right now its unclear on how this will break down.

KP/Kanter/Tim are young players that contribute now. Frank shows flashes but at 19 he can either be our Rondo/Parker or our Marcus Smart or Mario Chalmers..lord knows.

What type of player would you surround the above 3 to be contenders?

I'd look at the few teams that run 2 bigs with success in the modern NBA. Spurs/Memphis are the 2 teams I can think of. and look to mimic characteristics of the perimeter of those teams.

Mike Conley/Tony Allen/(forgot the small forward)
Tony Parker/Danny Green/Kawhi

on defense Frank fits the perimeter very well. Tim Hardaway on defense would have to be the weakest link.
on offense its basically in reverse for Frank.

Memphis no longer runs 2 bigs..........that died the moment Z-Bo signed with the Sac. Kings this summer.

Memphis's current starting PF is actually an athletic stretch 4, which is basically following the modern NBA standard so far.

There is no bad coaching and I don't know of an overachieving team that fired its coach, so people should forget about that idea. You don't get fired (or traded) for doing your job. Once we start losing, playing time will go up for the young players, so everyone should relax. No one's development is being hurt so far. Not even Hernangomez', because lots of basketball is left to be played.

Last time Memphis actually was competetive in the playoffs they ran 2 bigs. This year they suck so they dont even fit into it.

Duncan/Splitter started a ton of games in 2014...still modern NBA
Zach/Marc started a ton of games together the last couple years also. Zach was benched towards the end but it was more because he's 36 years old not because hes a big guy.

Kanter/KP looks like they are building blocks here. And you guys get real sensitive when you mention KP being a 5 even tho I just saw the 2 best teams in the NBA the last 3 years run out with Jordan Bell/Kevin Love at the 5 which imo is chop suey for KP playing that position. But thats another thread and another issue entirely.

we have a million road games...and so far into the season Kanter has solidified a couple things this year:

1. Locker room loves him
2. Toughest guy on the team
3. Cant win w/o him
4. Plays big against big opponents(Drummond/Embiid) and he played well against them(Kyle on the other hand....)

so to me Kanter/KP are our guys moving forward....how do you maximize them with the other 3 players on the floor and their back ups?
