KP says he's 238 (lbs) (September 2016)

Postby n8 the gr8 » September 21, 2016, 10:34 am

Wasn't he reportedly 240 at the start of last season?

Mostly small talk if you can't watch it. He's at a camp, says he's stronger and working hard.

Thanks for posting.

Not sure what he weighed at the beginning of last season, but to me, he looks like he weighs about the same. He looks stronger, though, which is better in my opinion. Endurance seemed to be his kryptonite. I don't think he should go out of his way to add extra pounds, though. It should be more of a natural progression over the course of his career.

Here's another video: The announcer says that's what you get for crying when he was drafted. Hilarious. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baske ... -1.2799521

not concerned, i think his ideal weight for his length will be in the 250-260 range in his prime years; he's only 21 and as shakes said, his strength and stamina are what need improvement. last year he sometimes had 5-8 mpg of afterburner that he could turn on but had to cruise and conserve his energy the rest of the game. would love to see him give a consistent 30 high quality mpg this season,

And let him bulk up to the point he'll break his knees like lame ass Greg Oden and useless Andrew Bynum?

Hell nah, nazr let the kid grow naturally for once.........this ain't a league for slow-lumbering big men anymore, he'll be retired by age 25 if you make him put on weight and run after these quicker Centers now.

Spot on BigJ, I'm actually relieved he didn't gain weight, I never felt he was pushed all over the court, that's probably because big guys can't even find him, he's elusive, glides through small cracks to slam in rebounds, with his high center of gravity and slim frame he shouldn't try to be something he isn't, agree with everyone else, longevity and staying injury-free will be the most important thing in his Knick career. i hope it's a long one.

Naturally? I want him to grow naturally but cmon, you strength train and eat right and one wouldn't expect you to gain 1lb per year. 5 is a pretty natural expectation

He doesnt just need to gain weight he needs muscle. Strengthening muscles around his core and quads would allow him to be even more versatile defensively and stabilize him in the paint.

I think his muscle tone and mass will definitely improve naturally over time. He should note that big guys extend their careers by limiting their jumping. That can help save his knees. Needing upper body strength is a given.

Honestly I expect to see a difference in his physique this year if he put in the work.
“We want to try to establish an identity. The identity has to become defense first,” Hornacek said. ...which means Melo off the bench.

I'm kind of with nazr. Not saying he needs to put on any crazy number but he didn't have that much body fat last year, so if he weighs the same I'm skeptical he'll be stronger. But as cragg and others pointed out: his endurance was a problem last year. I believe he worked hard and will be better, but I would've liked to see a little more tangible weight gain. Kevin Durant plays at 240.

I guess his weight is fine if the plan is for him to be a career 4.

One pound a year weight gain sounds perfect Nazr, ; finish up over 250; half way through switch primarily to center. No hurry, do people want KD to gain weight? nope, he's killing guys with size, skills, and speed. Guys get stronger right until age 30.

I dont know where to put this but...we FINALLY have legit measurements on KP that we never had last year.

http://www.espn.com/core/video/iframe?i ... card=false ...and this proves what we already knew...this kid is a legit 2k created player.

7'3 in shoes
7'3.75 wing span - remember when someone said it was 7'6?
2.37 agility test- .4 slower that Isaiah Thomas...WTF?
37 inch vertical- lower than what we heard last year of over 40 but lets face whoever thought that stupidness is crazy.

Either way...at 238, he should be fine from what i remember KG played in his prime at 240 for most of it(Tao if you have a link stating otherwise please post). I see KP being a 240-245 range till his mid 20's anyway.

If he's able to position on the elbow and block he should be ok, im more worried about his handle/leg strength/shot release(wish it was higher ala dirks but its all good) than i am about his weight. Kareem was skinny/Hakeem was skinny/AD is skinny/Camby is skinny/Ralph Sampson was skinny and all these guys are the most KP should be following anyway...develop his legs and core..dont even think about the weight, let us stupid fans assume thats all that matters.

KP didn't exactly get bullied last year. He held his own in the minutes he played at the 5. Him honing his skill set will make him a monster. He does most everything well now.

He is one of the new breed of big men in this league. The league is no longer about bullying people in the paint. It is getting more of a Euro-league style. His quickness will be very important.

Bump, maybe we can use this thread again in a few months since KP is going to spend the summer playing for Latvia and not working out.

Anthony Davis (24)- 254/6'11
Enes Kanter (24) - 245/6'11
Rudy Gobert (24)- 245/7'1
Jonas Valenciunas (24) - 245/7'0

Andre Drummond (23) - 279/6'11
Steven Adams (23) - 255/7'0

Nikola Jokic (22) - 249/6'11

Karl Anthony Towns (21)- 247/7'0
Myles Turner (21) - 243/6'11
Kristaps Porzingis (21) 240/7'3

Of the bigs under 25 who are probably locks to be starters (with the exception of Kanter probably, because he doesnt guard anyone) for the next 10 years, why is the tallest guy the lightest guy?

Your body type is your body type sometimes...and Kareem played at 240-250 for his career

Camby/Garnett had good years at the weight range also.

KP isnt build like the guys on your list and they dont move like he does. Just appreciate the anomoly that KP is and enjoy the ride.

If he can get to 245 this offseason he'd be set for next year.

Those guys are all studs and any given night they can one up eachother so I wouldnt be worried.

Anthony Davis (24) - 7 games missed, 11.8 rp36
Enes Kanter (24) - 10 games missed, 11.3 rp36
Rudy Gobert (24)- 1 game missed, 13.6 rp36
Jonas Valenciunas (24) - 2 games missed, 13.2 rp36

Andre Drummond (23) - 1 game missed, 16.7 rp36
Steven Adams (23) - 2 games missed, 9.3 rp36

Nikola Jokic (22) - 9 games missed, 12.6 rp36

Karl Anthony Towns (21)- 0 games missed, 12.0 rp36
Myles Turner (21) - 1 game missed, 8.3 rp36
Kristaps Porzingis (21) 240/7'3 - 16 games missed, 7.9 rp36

Yeah, well. Maybe i'd enjoy the anomaly more if it didn't mean missing the most games of the under-25 cohort and averaging the fewest boards per 36 minutes. The other guys don't move like KP? Is the way KP moves serving as an advantage? Is he a really a small forward? KAT can't move like KP?
